This painting was created after my trip to Tunisia, where I was struck by the vibrant colors, breathtaking nature, and the softness of the sunsets. These impressions found their way into every brushstroke, giving the work freshness and vitality. Now, in its new home at the restaurant, the painting continues this impulse, passing it on to others, filling the space with a unique atmosphere, and evoking new emotions.

I didn’t move to France by chance. I have always felt drawn to this country, as if an invisible force was guiding me back to my origins. This is not just a country I emigrated to—it is a place where my family’s roots run deep, even if centuries have passed.

The French surname Brel has been passed down through my mother’s side, but it is not my only connection to France. On my father’s side, my grandmother and great-grandfather also carried the Brel name. In our family, there has always been a legend about its origins. According to this version, in the 17th century, a group of French people with this surname left their homeland during a time of crisis in France and set off in search of a better life in Belarus. They settled in the Gomel region, including the village of Vasilevichi and the surrounding settlements, where they took up farming—the very place where my parents were born.

Interestingly, this surname became widely recognized in France thanks to Jacques Brel, the legendary chansonnier who, although born in Belgium, became a true symbol of French musical culture. Of course, there is no confirmed family connection between us, but the presence of this name in French history creates yet another unexpected bridge between my past and present.

From an early age, I felt an attraction to France. I started learning French as a child, dreaming that one day I would find myself in the land where my ancestors once lived. Now, centuries later, I feel as if I have closed the circle.

That is why I can confidently call myself a Belarusian artist with French roots. My art is also a journey through time and space, connecting past and present, Belarus and France.

We had to reschedule the interview several times, and I was quite unsure if I should go because I’m not fluent in the language. But I decided it would be an interesting experience, so I went.

This was my first radio experience, and everything went smoothly, except for my voice sounding a bit quiet in places.
I spoke in Russian, and @massouliercoachstyle translated for me, for which I’m very grateful ✨.

What did we talk about?
My painting and its seasonality, who inspires me, my creative process, and the exploration of sexuality. We also talked about how important it is for women to be open creatively.

Overall, I really enjoyed it, and I’d happily do it again!

The exhibition took place in the luxurious hall of the La Maison l’Amérique Latine mansion on the Boulevard Saint-Germain in the center of Paris.
For two days there were fashion shows, performances, a fashion market and there was so much beauty and outrageous people who fascinated and produced a wow effect 🤩
It was bright, fun and unforgettable!

 How can I place an order?

 You send a request on what topic you want a painting and show references, if any. These can be photographs or description text of the plot. To discuss the order, write to mari.skakun.art@gmail.com

 Mari paints in oils on canvas.  Painting larger than 100 * 100 cm  is best done on a rolled canvas so that it can be packed in a tube during transportation. Art materials that used are made in French.

 The minimal work time starts from 3 weeks.  Because any oil painting requires drying from 2 to 5 days and the final coating with a protective varnish requires 14 -30 days.  At the end of the work, we will send you a photo and video of the painting, you have the right to 2 edits. We can also send you a video report of all stages of creating the painting – this is a paid service. Price 99€

The cost of custom painting calculated individually. Payment occurs in two stages: 60% before the work start and remaining 40% after checking the photos of the completed painting.

 Shipping and packaging is included in the cost of the order if the work does not exceed 1.5 m on any side. Today, sending to Russia is almost impossible.

Buying a painting means filling the interior with aesthetics and a certain mood, it has the energy of beauty, fosters taste!
